My Parenting Role Models
As much as this space is all about Daniel and for him to remember his childhood, I believe it is also equally as important for him to not just recollect about us (his parents) but also who inspired us in our parenting journey.
Parenting is all about trial and error, and it always lead to a mix bag of success and failures. And in a world of quick hacks 101 now, it can be paralysing to pick and choose your source of parenting tips and tricks, if I can even call it that. Personally, I look up to my own parents for a lot of role modeling. One aspect in particular that I will always remember them for is the way my parents treated their own parents; be it when they were still around or when they have left us for a better place.
I was glad that I could offer my help to bring them to the cemetery to visit our arwah nenek, nyai and Hana. Watching them recite prayers and pay their respects taught me a great deal about the importance of remembering and honoring those who have played important roles in our lives, without whom and their love, we would not be who we are or get to where we are at today. It is a way to stay connected to our roots and appreciate the sacrifices that were made for us.
As for our family, mama wanted to spend the weekend relaxing by the beach given that it was the last weekend before Ramadhan. So to the beach it was then.
