Our Little Jeju Island
My wife and I have always had this pull towards Jeju Island. It's hard to put into words, but something about its rustic countryside and coastal towns just feels right. It's a peaceful place, or so we've heard, and we've always wanted to go.
Then one day, we found it. Not Jeju Island, but something close. We were cycling along a path that led to Changi Bay Point. The further we went, the more the city faded away, replaced by open skies and the sound of waves. It had the same vibe as Jeju Island, that sense of peace we were looking for. We looked at each other and knew. This was our own little Jeju Island, right here in Singapore.
But this trip was special for another reason. Our son Daniel was with us, and it was his first time cycling on his own. He's got this little practice bike, you see. No pedals, just his tiny legs pushing him along. We ended cycling for 2km in total. That might not seem like much, but for a lad who's not even three yet, it's a marathon. And he did it. He pushed that bike all the way, and the look on his face when we reached the bay was priceless.
So there we were, the three of us, standing at our own little Jeju Island. I looked at my wife, then at Daniel, and I thought about the future. Maybe someday, we'll go to the real Jeju Island. We'll cycle along its paths and feel that same sense of peace, but amplified. Until then, we've got Changi Bay Point, and that's good enough for us.
